Tavecchio resigns from the post of chairman of the Italian Federation
Carlo Tavecchio has confirmed that he has resigned from the Italian Football Federation.
The 74-year-old has made public the decision to leave during Monday’s meeting.
He made this decision after failing in his three-year job, as Italy did not qualify for the World Cup. “I’m sorry. I’m leaving because I have failed, “he told the Council members. “I apologize to all the Italians. Now is the time for Italian football to mark a new era and not just the usual round of couches. ”
“The policy has stopped us from facing the reasons for this outcome, so I made the decision for change on behalf of some of you,” he added.
Italy earlier also fired coach Gian Piero Ventura after failing to qualify for the World Cup, ‘Russia 2018’. It is expected that the Azzurri will build a new team with a new staff to target the upcoming European Championships.
